The care is amazing. I just lost my precious kitty and they were wonderful through it all. They sat there and held my hand while I cried and gave me options when I was able to listen. My other cat had gone through a crisis years before and they were equally amazing. I can't say enough amazing things about this place. Our ending was a sad one and I am in awe with what they do day to day. Wonderful people and wonderful place to handle with extreme care our precious cats and dogs.
Honest care and trustworthy. Fair prices! They DON'T overcharge.
Friendly staff & Dr Rumm is very knowledgable and thorough! Also, my dog is always excited to come here! = )
Thank you, Belmont... For keeping my beloved pets and healthy! Feels like home in your office.
I took my pooch here for an emergency visit because it was almost after hours for her regular doc and I wasn't sure if they would take her. BHAH took us in 15 mins before the doors closed and they took really good care of my Penguin. I told them that I would pay for the necessary immediate medications but that I wanted her regular vet to follow up with what they had started. They faxed over the details of our visit right away and followed with phone calls the next day to see how my girl was doing. I've taken previous pets here for last minute care and have never had problems here. It's just a little run down is all compared to the place I normally take my doggie. But I throw down the 4-stars for decent back up service in the ER situations.
Dr. Rumm has been treating my pets for over 20 years. He is not only a friend to animals, but he and his staff helped me through very tough times when my dog was diagnosed with a rare and mostly fatal condition. A couple of the vets I spoke with had never even seen a case of chylothorax in a dog. Dr. Rumm recognized the urgency and went above and beyond his responsibilities to save my dog. Through his actions and the actions of the other specialists he enlisted my dog went on to live many more years. Thank You!!!
I think this place is great. I have been taking my 2 cats there for years. I used to see Dr. K and he was great with my cats but he left and now I've been seeing all the doctors and getting the same good care. Paul and Laurie always call to make sure everything is ok and they always make me feel like im not asking stupid questions when i call them all the time! The nurses seem to change all the time but i've never had a problem with any of them. I've noticed that many reviews happen to be upset about cost and I have to say maybe it is expensive but I don't take MYSELF to the free clinic expecting miracles so i dont expect my pet to be well taken care of for free either. so for all the reviews that say "they saved my fluffy's life, but it cost me money" maybe you should consider getting stuffed pets instead of real ones.
I have also been going here for years and have never had a bad experience. Paul at the front desk is amazing to watch and is probably one of the friendliest people I know. I think Dr. Rumm is one of the smartest vets in town. It looks like most of the bad reviews on here are about money. Sure, he's not the cheapest vet but that's not my deciding factor on what makes a good vet. I want to feel validated and I've never once felt slighted.
I've taken my little frenchie here since day one and she loves it there! she always runs in and is excited to see her uncle paul every time!
I came into the clinic last Thursday with my partner and his dog. Thank you so much for your kindess. Paul made a difficult time so much easier. I got Simba originally when she was 6 wks old. Thank you for reaching out to me and explaining what would happen. I will always remember and so appreciate you and your kindness. Thank you again and God Bless you!
Kind and tender compassionate care! obvious that everyone there is deeply concerned for their patients. i am so grateful for all their help and treatment of MY Louie!
best staff ever!
It was about a week after Thanksgiving and I took our dog Cuba for his afternoon walk. It was around 4:45 pm. We got about 4 houses down from ours and Cuba became very alert. I looked in the direction he was looking and on our neighbors lawn was a dog curled up in a ball. I've never seen this dog before and know its doesn't belong to any of our neighbors. At first glance the dogs face was pretty beaten up so much I thought he was missing his right eye. I called animal control and because it was after 5 pm no control officer was on duty. I decided I couldn't leave this injured dog out in the cold over night so I brought him back home and made him comfortable in our garage. It was heart breaking to see him in this condition but he did all he could to show his appreciation with a few licks and wags of his tail. My husband and I decided to take him to see Dr. Rumm rather then call animal control . Animal control would have put him down immediately. Now I have been going to Dr.Rumm for over 20 years. He has treated out Choc. lab who passed away at 18 years of age and our cat who we recently put down this past Oct at 21 years of age.We have always felt we received exceptional care from Dr. Rumm and his staff (Paul and Jeanie). I called Paul in the morning and he said to bring the dog in right away. Dr.Rumm couldn't believe how bad the dog looked. I asked Dr. Rumm to clean his face and wound and lets take the decision making from there. We didn't know how bad the dog was injured. Once Dr.Rumm cleaned his face and it was unbelievable. He had a gash from between his eyes down along the ridge of his nose crossing under his right eye . His sinus cavity and a hole in it and his eye lids had collapsed into his eye. At first we thought someone had hit him with a shovel (but later with think he was hit by a car.) Dr.Rumm cleaned the wound out and there was so much dead tissue deep inside that he felt he had been injured and wondering around for more then a week.. Upon further examination we were happy to see that the right eye which had retracted deep inside his eye socket wasn't damaged. We knew he would need surgery but because he was so malnourished Dr.Rumm felt it best he eat and regain some strength and then perform the surgery in two days. At first Im thinking OMG how much is this going to cost and do I really want to invest this kind of money into a dog that may not make it or I may turn over to a rescue. After discussing the options I asked Dr.Rumm for a price. I felt comfortable with the price he gave me but then he said " because he's a stray I'll give you a 25% discount". I was so happy at that moment.. since then he has been back for followups and Dr.Rumm even extended a courtesy visit to us..(no charge). He has done so well we decided to keep the dog and name him Alex. And by the way Alex has fallen in love with Paul ,Jeanie and Benny and I'll tell you why..Each of them had given Alex so much love and care while he was there. They were truly concerned about him . Alex still has a few things to be repaired and that will be done by the opthamologist / orthopedic surgeon Dr.Rumm referred us to . Alex has turned out to be such a wonderful unexpected surprise and we have Dr.Rumm and his staff to thank for that...
Love this place! The Doctors are so kind and caring as is all the staff! They take great care of my cat JR and he likes them very much. Thank you BH Animal Hosp!!
If you want your pet to get the best medical care then this is the place to go. The staff and Dr Rumm are very knowledgable and always take great care of my pets. They make sure I know what my pets need and they give me options on how I want to treat them when they have been sick. They have also stayed late when my Mable was really sick and I couldn't get in to see them until after 6. They are very thorough which can make some visits expensive but they are worth it to keep my babies healthy!
Took my brother's dog there and everyone was helpful and friendly, The vet explained what needed to be done and advised what we should do. Everyone was great. I feel confident in recommending you take your pet here.
I stand by my original review, below, but need to add some things that have improved my impression of the place, during a very difficult situation which ended in our having to put our cat to sleep. Much of this improved experience, I think, had to do with the different Dr. we encountered. I also need to add that their head technician, Jeannie, is beyond amazing and compassionate, and should really be at her own practice with doctors as the secondary characters. Anyway, our final experience here was so different from previous ones thanks largely to Dr. Phillips who was absolutely compassionate and decent. He was very kind to both our cat, and us, which I know can be challenging when people are faced with these difficult decisions, and acting in unpredictable ways. It's also true that the staff was amazing throughout the entire experience, from getting us in at odd hours, to total compassion when we finally had to make the most excruciating decision. Dr. Rumm, the owner of this place, I believe, did make us feel like we were just bad pet people for not being able to spend limitless amounts on diagnostics. However, to his credit, he stayed late one evening to see our sick cat, and helped us figure out how to treat her within our limited budget. So I'm raising my stars in the review. I realize that others have had bad experiences and so my review might not completely help this place, and I'm keeping my previous review, below, in attempt to give a full picture. But I think that if you go there asking for Dr. Phillips, and realizing that Jeannie is handling the technician part of the situation, you will have a good experience in which both you and your pet will be well-served. My previous review: "These reviews have been really helpful in making me feel like I'm not the worst pet owner ever. I've had similar experiences with lots of tests being pushed. Our cat was pretty ill, and we went along with many of the tests, with still no real diagnosis. When we were running out of funds, the Dr. finally begrudgingly agreed to work with our limited budget, but really made us feel like we were making bad decisions. My first clue about their approach should have been the question in the paperwork asking whether we viewed our pet as an animal or a member of the family. That basically said to me "we are determining how much money we can get you to spend." Very frustrating.
I have been going to Belmont Heights for several years for routine veterinary care for my cat. When he started acting sick, I brought him to Belmont Heights. Both Dr. Rumm and Dr. Phillips have attended to him and have been great. The costs have been reasonable given the level of care required to diagnose and treat my cat's illness. I have spoken to someone at the clinic nearly every day for more than two weeks and they have been closely monitoring my cat's progress. The entire staff has been wonderful through a trying experience.
Great experiences for over 4 years. I felt they gave my dog quality care. They gave me options for treatment and followed up daily. The doctor really helped me understand my dog's health problems well so I could make informed decisions. I heard they were more expensive than some other hospitals but I found they were much more thorough in the care they provided compared to previous vets I have gone to.
I have been taking my english bulldogs here for years. they always have a gentle staff and knowledgeable doctors.
I think these guys are great! They always know me and get me in right away. It looks like the other reviews are upset about money. I will agree that they aren't the cheapest, but that's not what I look for when I want medical care. I have been going here for 3 years now and don't have one single complaint! Keep up the good work guys!
I have been taking my cat to Belmont Heights Animal Hospital (BHAH) for nearly 15 years and it has been an overall positive experience. Sad to say, this ended recently when my cat came down with an untreatable form of cancer and had to be euthanized. If and when we get another cat, my husband and I would definitely return to BHAH for its vet care. There are many reasons for liking this vet practice. I like that the pet owner is able to come into the exam room when the vet examines the pet. From visiting other local vets, I understand that this is not always the policy. I think the vets (I usually deal with Dr. Rumm but sometimes Dr. Philips) are professional and competent. This is based on many visits for my somewhat special-needs cat (calm at home but aggressive at the vet's) who developed a multitude of chronic conditions as she aged. These included: chronic feline renal failure and reoccurring bladder infections as well as occasional trauma (bites from neighbor cats) and finally cancer of the jaw. In addition, I have been impressed with the clinic staff, esp. head nurse Jeannie, who I know over the years consistently did her utmost to reduce levels of stress involved in my cat's vet care. This extended to the very end, when Jeannie and Dr. Rumm made a "final" house call. I'm not sure how charges at BHAH compare with other local practices. It's my impression that if cost is an issue for the pet owner, prices are somewhat negotiable (although you do have to ask). When we first brought our cat in, she was a stray and as a result we got a discount on the initial bill. Also, we got a bit of a volume discount for pain medicine when she was in her recent cancer hospice period. Finally, while I believe that we received excellent advice from the vets at BHAH, in terms of quality of care you get for your pet, it really pays to research conditions and treatment options on your own to supplement info obtained from the vets. That's because only you know what is truly best for your pet.
I have taken my pets to Dr. Rumm for years. He saved my cat's life back in the 80's by performing emergency surgery; when my cat was having some post-op trouble, he met me late at night in his office in his sweats...came right away...made sure my cat was okay. That cat lived to be 19. Since then, I have brought three dogs to him; we had to put one down last year when it couldn't recover from internal injuries (the support and compassion I received from the office was huge) , but the surviving dogs are a healthy 10 and four, thanks to Dr. Rumm. He always is thorough, professional, conscientious, friendly. My dogs LOVE him and trust him. Jeannie, his nurse, is amazing. She is so loving and calm and patient with my little neurotic dachshund, who, by the way, has a HUGE crush on her! Paul, the front office manager, is helpful and professional, keeps all my pets' records accurate, is great about getting me refills on vitamins and prescription meds for my dogs over the years, and keeps me up on the specials the office offers on flea meds and teeth cleaning. They are like family to me; I know they truly care about animals, and they are great at what they do. Dr. Rumm will talk candidly with you about your pet's health, and he is proactive about their care. I would never take my pet anywhere but Belmont Heights and a respect and trust their judgement about the health care needs of my four legged children. Anyone who would say something negative about this place just doesn't know what he or she is talking about.
